Just in time for these dark winter days, the super sign at the northern end of the water axis is being expanded and fitted with lighting from today.

As was the case with the temporary structure, Steel apprentices from Duisburg have once again contributed parts of the frame.

The work on the super sign is expected to continue for the rest of the week and be completed on Friday.

Giant logo for the Essen Campus

In a few days the 8 meter wide and 2 meter high thyssenkrupp logo on the Essen Campus will be completed. Steel apprentices from Duisburg have played a major role in its creation, proving that they have mastered their trade.

The giant Group logo located on the northern side of Q1 has become an integral part of the Campus for many employees. It attracted great attention when it was installed in April and now the so-called “super sign” is assuming its final shape. The frame has been extended to include a top section, paneling has been added around the body and the logo is now illuminated from the inside.

There are two amazing things about the logo: This was the first time that Steel has made something directly for the Essen Campus, and its apprentices don’t usually work on such large items. So the order from Headquarters was a great opportunity for the young employees to put what they have learnt into practice and gain new skills.

“Everyone contributed their individual skills”

“A total of ten apprentice technical product designers, industrial mechanics and design engineers were involved in the super sign,” said Ralf Lunau, production foreman at Steel Europe in Duisburg. Together with trainer Sascha Steinnagel he coordinated the apprentices. “They spent a total of two-and-a-half months working on the original frame and the current refinements at our technical center.”

Timo Glomb, trainee industrial mechanic, said: “Working as a team was great fun. We all learned and benefitted from each other as everyone contributed their individual skills.”

“The super sign has got to be super!”

Anyone who works that hard deserves praise. So some of the apprentices and trainers involved also traveled to Essen to install the logo. There, the young team was met by CFO Guido Kerkhoff. With sincere thanks on behalf of the entire Board he presented all with net.shop gifts to match the new Supersign. The team from Duisburg has no doubt that this will be well-received by employees at the Quarter because during its production they adhered strictly to the motto: “The super sign has got to be super!”
