Made-to-measure slabs from Beeckerwerth
New slitting line in Duisburg-Beeckerwerth processes slabs to individual customer specifications
thyssenkrupp has broadened its range of services for its Steel customers. To this end, thyssenkrupp Millservices & Systems and thyssenkrupp Steel Europe have again expanded their cooperation at Oxygen Steel Mill 2. The experts for steel mill-related services have commissioned a new facility for the mechanical slitting of slabs at Duisburg Beeckerwerth. On six "tables", the slabs can now be precisely cut to customer specifications. Another advantage of this speedier process is improved delivery performance.
"We are pleased to have won this contract. The expansion of our cooperation with thyssenkrupp Steel Europe is a fine example of the strong ties within the Group," states Timm Jesberg, Head of Finishing Services. Together with his team he will in future cut up to 150,000 t of slabs per month to the desired dimensions. In addition, thyssenkrupp MillServices & Systems will support the steel mill in its logistics chain: from inventory management and scheduling right up to shipment to the end-customer.
Both parties stand to benefit from the deal. "We are closely attuned to the needs of Steel and able to respond flexibly in day-to-day operations. Moreover, the new facility is designed to boost quality and slit burr-free, thus eliminating any need for downstream reworking," adds Jesberg. This view is endorsed by Robert Kelle, Team Head in the Slab Finishing Shop at thyssenkrupp Steel Europe. "The intragroup cooperation has advantages for us while our customers benefit from the faster processing."
