Honest and direct insight into the business: Martina Merz visiting Krefeld
To get to know the business in detail from all sides, Martina Merz, Chief Executive Officer of thyssenkrupp AG, regularly visits various sites of the Group. At the end of July she went to Krefeld to meet the colleagues from thyssenkrupp Materials Processing Europe.
It was not without reason that the Krefeld branch was chosen: The Materials Processing Europe location on the Lower Rhine is a showcase for the wide range of modern services and with its degree of automation is a pioneer for the service focus of Materials Services. Ideal for demonstrating how the approaches of the strategic development of MX "Materials as a Service" can look in practice.
A presentation giving an overview of the service center business model was followed by a tour of the production facilities. Here various topics were on the agenda, such as the IIoT platform toii® developed by MX, which clearly shows how formerly analogue processes can be systematically digitalized and also scaled up for other areas and locations. There were also presentations on operational excellence measures such as the shop floor management system.
Direct dialogue in the foreground
But the visit was not only focused on the projects – Martin Stillger, Chariman of the Executive Board of Materials Services, explains why such visits are so important to him: "They give everyone involved the chance to gain an honest insight into the business. Because instead of slides of a presentation, the focus here is on the colleagues who are the faces and heads behind the projects. For this, direct and authentic exchange is indispensable".
To make this possible, a meeting was held after the joint production tour, during which the employees had the opportunity to ask Martina Merz their questions – in compliance with current hygiene rules with a view to Corona with due distance.
Martina Merz also appreciated the direct insight, as the visit gave her the opportunity to get to know the good structure of the business and colleagues at the site.
