1 Escalator - 1 Tree
At thyssenkrupp’s escalator manufacturing plant in Northern Spain, “Going Green” now has a tangible target: The factory committed to planting one tree per escalator sold from the factory.
In an effort to increase the green spaces available near the factory, the management recently signed an agreement with the Mieres City Council in which it committed to planting one tree per escalator sold from the factory. The planting will begin this month in the La Teyerona area, and will include several indigenous trees such as birches, chestnuts, ash, beech, oak and cherry.
La Teyerona is a hillside area located in the Mieres municipality, and is approximately 10 km away from the factory. The area includes a recreation area for families, who will no doubt benefit from the additional vegetation.
So how many trees are we talking about? In the last financial year (2017/2018), the factory manufactured 940 escalators, so the aim is to plant at least these many trees in the upcoming year.
Kudos to the team for this commendable initiative!
